WHISPER – HEARING THE VOICE OF GOD
Series: Whisper
WHISPER HEARING THE VOICE OF GOD - 1 Sunday, January 7, 2018
The act of hearing is detecting vibrations of the eardrum caused by sound waves. The intensity of those sound waves is measured in decibels. A whisper is just 15 decibels. Numerous times Jesus says, “He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying…” 1 Kings 19:1-12 V.1-3 Elijah runs for his life and lands in isolation. V.4-8 Even in isolation God sustains Elijah. V. 9 When God asks a question it’s not because He doesn’t know the answer. V.10 Isolation gives room for fear, doubt, and confusion. V.11-12 God doesn’t always speak according to our preconceived ideas. V. 12 “a still small voice.”  The ESV uses the words “low whisper.” Here’s the question - Can you hear the whisper above the pain of the wounds? What is the Spirit saying? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Announcements Prayer + Fasting – Jan. 7th – Jan. 14th Anchored – Our annual ladies event, Anchored, is coming up on Jan. 19th, with guest speaker Jessica Buckland. SONGS OF THE SEASON – JOY TO THE WORLD
    SONGS OF THE SEASON
    JOY TO THE WORLD

12/17/2017 In 1719 an English Pastor, Isaac Watts, wrote a famous collection called The Psalms of David, Imitated in the Language of the New Testament.

Joy to the world, the Lord has come! Let earth receive her King Let every heart prepare Him room And Heaven and nature sing And Heaven and nature sing And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing

Luke 2:8-12 - There is something unique in v.11 that you do not want to miss. Nowhere else in the entire Bible will you find the three words Savior, Christ, and Lord together in one verse.

The second line of the first stanza says, Let earth receive her King. Jesus Christ came to be King of all nations, tribes, and tongues.

The next and final line we want to consider is, “Let every heart prepare Him room.”

A part of the mystic of the Christmas story is when Mary
and Joseph cannot find a place to stay.
There was no room in the Inn. Finally, they land in a stable, a barn, probably a cave like structure.

The sad reality is that today we still wrestle with this same problem.

You and I, as Kingdom messengers, are not called to simply show up once-in- a-while, we are called to make
    room for Him.

SONGS OF THE SEASON – O’COME O’COME EMMANUEL

    SONGS OF THE SEASON

    O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL

    Sunday, December 10, 2017

    O come, O come, Emmanuel

    And ransom captive Israel

That mourns in lonely exile here

Until the Son of God appear

    Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free

    Thine own from Satan's tyranny

From depths of Hell Thy people save

And give them victory o'er the grave

    Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and cheer

Our spirits by Thine advent here

Disperse the gloomy clouds of night

And death's dark shadows put to flight.

    Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Key of David, come,

    And open wide our heavenly home;

Make safe the way that leads on high,

And close the path to misery.

    Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O come, Thou Lord of might,

Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai's height,

In ancient times did'st give the Law,

In cloud, and majesty and awe.

    Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel.

This may be the oldest Christmas lyrics of all the Christmas songs we sing.  It wasn’t until 1851 that Thomas Helmore connected the melody with the words.  When you hear this song you can hear the cry, the longing for a Savior.

When Jesus arrived as a baby there were, no doubt, many whose hearts were crying for an answer from on high.  They had heard the prophecy, yet their heart yearned for a real God, a God in their midst.

The writer of this ancient chant brings light to 5 titles that reference the coming of Christ.

       •    Emmanuel is the promise that God is will come and dwell with us through Jesus Christ.

       •    Rod of Jesse is the promise and hope of resurrection to newness of life through Jesus Christ.

       •    Day-spring is the promise of light in the darkest of times through Jesus Christ.

       •    Key of David promises us entrance into the door of heaven through Jesus Christ.

       •    Desire of nations is focused on the building a kingdom of peace through Jesus Christ.

VISION – THE BRUSH OF THE MANTLE
    Series: Vision
VISION THE BRUSH OF THE MANTLE Sunday, December 3, 2017 2 Kings 2:1-14 Necessary Endings - You must walk out of one thing to enter another. 3 Steps of resistance: Elijah told Elisha not to follow. The School of the Prophets discouraged Elisha, as well.  His response to the School of the Prophets was “BE QUIET.” The final resistance is when Elijah gives Elisha the option to walk away one more time. 2 Reasons transitions are hard: 1. Are you ready to let go of the past?  2. Are you truly ready to walk into your future? There are 3 things that I believe we will begin to see evolving from this transition. Greater Prophetic mantle. A new generational impact. A fresh flow of supernatural power. Announcements COMING UP:

    BALANCED
    GIVING AND RECEIVING
    Sunday, November 26, 2017
You cannot separate giving and receiving. Luke 6:38 - This is powerful principle that works in every area of life. Luke 12:13-21 - Jesus is trying to answer a man’s request by attacking a heart issue that many people wrestle with… covetousness. Jesus makes a powerful statement when He declares that if we live our life laying up treasures for ourselves it reveals our poverty in the Kingdom of God. Proverbs 11:24-25 Selfishness and Grief are your enemy. Selfishness attacks us before we give and grief attacks after we give. Giving and receiving is a faith law.       ANNOUNCEMENTS The City Hub Coffee + Cleaning – Sunday, Nov. 26th, the Rustbelt staff will be deep cleaning The City Hub. Balanced - Fasting and Feasting

God wants us to find balance in life!

Matthew 4:1-11 - Fasting was the launching pad for the ministry of Jesus

Fasting is more than not eating food.

The bottom line is fasting is about Consecration, Alignment/Realignment, Humbling Oneself, Focusing on God and Seeking after God.

The scriptures speak a lot about fasting, but even more about Feasting,

The Jewish people had a total of seven feasts that God laid out in the Old Testament

The major festivals of the Old Testament Israel were, in calendar order, Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost), the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and the Feast of Booths (Tabernacles or Ingathering).

The Feast of Weeks (Pentecost) - This feast occurred seven full weeks after the wave offering of the first Fruits at Passover.

Pentecost - "50" days after Passover. This is a significant time of feast for us because it is the beginning of the church as we know it today.

    Acts 2:1-4
We have operated the secular from the sacred, but God is looking for any moment and any place where He can show up and reveal Himself. It may happen during a time of fasting,, but i can also be during a time of feasting.
